Waist disposal!

August 4, 2010 1 Comment

Well the scales have finally registered the 5 stone (30 kg) weight-loss I had been hoping for this summer. I have about 2 stone (12 kg) still to go….

As we all know, eating is only half the battle after surgery, every health professional says it is important to get moving more. Weight-loss without exercise is slower and you are less likely to reach your goal weight.

So, if I am to make the dream a reality I have to look at my exercise schedule and up the ante. I am lucky to have a membership of Nirvana Spa in Arborfield, Berkshire where I can swim during the week and I do (aiming for a couple of times a week and swimming 20-25 lengths). Now I have enlisted the help of the gym squad to tone up the body and hopefully give the weight-loss a boost.

So far I have had an induction session where Katherine showed me a range of core strengthening exercises with weights which I have been working through.

Hilarity set in however when I tried the BOSU. This is a soft, half-ball, blue, dome-shaped thing which is primarily used for stability work to help build up your core muscles for balance. Well I am clearly UNSTABLE because I was upended on more than one occasion. Apparently this isn’t a bad thing because it teaches you to engage with your core muscles. Well I’m not beaten by it yet and I will continue to do my 10 minute ab attack on it to try and tighten up the stomach flab…it’s either that or a new pair of ‘magic knickers’ from M & S.

I have to say although very early in my weight loss journey i have discovered that actually having the energy to go for a 3 mile walk and not feel awful after is amazing! I never thought i’d enjoy exercise but am actually looking forward to going for walks with my husband! Next step, line dancing 🙂 Keep up the good work Carol x
