So it’s the day and night before Christmas and time to let the revelry begin!
But not before a simple supper is prepared for this very special of Eves! As usual, and by tradition, we’ll be eating our Fisherman’s Pie – a welcome change from the usual poultry and game fare we’ve been eating this last few weeks. If you have some mixed fish fillets in the freezer there’s still time to join us and make one yourself – see the recipe below.

Then it’s time to warm the mulled drinks and lay a lavish table. We have some lovely ideas on how to make things festive at the last minute – see below. There’ll be parlour games tomorrow, perhaps a quiz and of course some block-buster TV after the ‘main feasting event’. And no doubt a walk to try and fend off the excesses of the festive-frenzy eating or ‘the full Elvis’ as my family call it.

Tis also the season for revelations. Santa is real for sure – Rudolph, pure fiction. Pickled walnuts are deemed chic for this season, and colouring is now all grown-up. Gifts come in many guises; we’ve received the sprouts and other vegetables that some of you grew (so appreciated), the biscotti you baked (enjoyed pre-Xmas I’m afraid) and the books you’ve chosen and advised for 2017 guidance (primed and ready to read the moment we close down the hatches).
Thank you, one and all, for your support and friendship this last year. We’re wishing you a very jolly, healthy and happy Christmas.
