Well I guess we all thought it played an important part, but now the evidence is here to confirm that those who attend support groups do go on to lose more weight and also maintain it. These figures and research also confirm that regain is minimised.
I go to about 4 support groups, one very regularly for friendship and support; another regularly for first-class information as well as support; one not so frequently because it is quite a distance but I just adore the people there; and one on a casual basis because they were the first ‘buddies’ I found and they were a life-line in the early days.
I have therefore decided to add a new category to the blog, of ‘Support Groups’ and sites where you can find some information on who is near to you and when and where they meet. Just go to Coping Mechanisms and look for ‘Support Groups’.
Needless to say this is just a start…with my own coming first. I hope you will let me know all about your own with contact details, place, time and date. I’ll update everytime I receive a new one and list them ALPHABETICALLY!
