On the countdown to Thanksgiving, or the run up to the Christmas holidays, you can be forgiven for being a bit harried and distracted from eating a sit-down meal and yet recognise the need to pack in a punch of protein to keep the body nourished and the nerves at bay. This may well be a good time to enjoy a protein shake rather than one of the festive sugary offerings from the coffee chains.
For some very early post-ops you may not be able to enjoy a Thanksgiving dinner tomorrow but want a taste of the Thanksgiving meal – here’s a bit of it and something to consider.
The recipe above combines two holiday favourites in one tall glass – pumpkin and pecans. Use your own favourite protein shake powder (this one is made with a pumpkin pie flavoured variety but you can use vanilla and add some pumpkin pie spice to get the same type of taste); your choice of plain or nut milk; and finally pecans or other nuts for a trio that’s impressive. If you can’t manage nuts as yet then simply omit. Swirl the top with a little low-fat whipped cream or topping and a dusting of nuts for something that looks and tastes truly indulgent.
