Obese and Unhealthy People Could Face Benefit Cuts

January 4, 2013 Leave a Comment

Proposals have been put forward by a council and government think tank yesterday to recommend that obese and unhealthy people should be monitored to check whether they are taking exercise or not. If they’re not then their benefits could be cut.

Westminster Council (in the UK) and the Local Government Information Unit say new technologies (such as smart cards) could be used to track claimants’ use of leisure centres, allowing local authorities to dock housing and council benefit payments from those who refuse to carry out exercise prescribed by their GP.

What are your thoughts on this? Would they consider docking any other sector?
