What an amazing site, you truly are an inspiration. Being a little devil in the kitchen, I do like to spice things up…your recipes certainly give me some new ideas. Awesome photography has me dribbling profusely.

Who says Bariatric Surgery stops you eating normally? I’m living like a king adventuring into foods I had never tried in my previous fat unhealthy lifestyle…I am loving it..even more now I have your site to come to.

Thankyou for taking the time to help us understand foods, you are a truly committed individual who inspires many going through the process. Nothing is ever too much trouble for ‘Carol the Cook’…I am humbled. Well done.

Buzz, post-bypass patient

Have to say looking at your recipes they look so simple. I am going to treat myself to a book that i will actually use. Am hoping there might be some ideas in there for people who take packed lunches to work! There is only so much ryvita with cottage cheese i can eat! Am hopeful there may be something in the book suitable for lunch that will excite me as much as the taster of recipes on here have. Thank you so very very much x

Hi Julie, there are indeed recipes in the book for lunchbox ideas and I am going to expand on them further in the Thinner Times column in the autumn too. Keep checking the blog too for some quick and easy ideas…I’ve not had much time myself recently so have been testing recipes for quick evening meals. Carol

I have been reading the site more thoroughly this time. There is so much on it of interest to help post bypass patients like myself. I’m seven months out.
I particularly enjoyed the information about water and it’s role in weight-loss.
I feel I will learn something everytime I read this site.
Many thanks Carol for your continued hard work and research. It is most appreciated.

Thanks Madeleine! I love looking at all the latest research and new ideas. I am reading a new book about the gastric mind band solution at the moment and will post about it soon. It’s the solution that makes you think you have had a gastric band without the surgery! Interesting and thought provoking? It’s also National Diabetes Day this Sunday so I have some information from the association that might help those pre and post-oppers who have this condition.

Hi, being new post operative person I am trying to get into a new routine. The one thing I have found no advice on and perhaps someone can help me is what a snack consists of? I am about to cook my first of your recipes and looking forward to trying the results albeit pureed.

Hi Jill, hope you enjoy the book and the recipes! You’re right very little is written about snacks…I daresay that is because most dieticians recommend 3 main meals and don’t encourage a snacking or grazing routine. That said, my own recommended 3 main meals and perhaps a couple of snacks if required. She suggested the following:

    a low-fat and low-sugar cereal bar
a small packet of unsalted nuts (or small handful)
a rich tea or low-fat digestive biscuit
a small piece of cheese like a Babybel
a small bag of mixed seeds
    a piece of fruit
a small bag of soya nuts
a low-fat and low sugar yogurt
    a low-fat and low-sugar Options type drink
a couple of pieces of beef jerky or biltong
an oatcake, rice cake, few mini ryvitas or Melba toast with a little hummous, spread or pate

I do have more ideas myself and think I will do a feature on this in the coming days on the website so do look out for it.

    Best wishes,
    CAROL

Help, I’m not sure where to go or how to counteract this….. I am having some lung problems and they have put me on predisone (a steroid) which of course most of us knows makes you hungry. I have resisted most of the time – I had a few slips like the craving I had for lasagne – I only ate a 2in x 2in square. I have gained 5 lbs back I don’t want to gain anymore and I don’t want this to hinder my losing any more since I’ve only got 20 more pounds to meet my goal weigh the doctor set for me. I am using the recipes here I’m really glad to find them….any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Hi Annette, I’m pleased the recipes are helping! I think you should get in touch with your bariatric dietician for some help with this. I am a food writer and just like you a WLS Patient so can’t really help with anything medically based. In liaison with him/her you may be able to find a better medication or they may be able to give you some pointers as to how to reduce any cravings. You have done so well and they will be just as keen for you to preserve your weight-loss to date and reach goal too. Good luck! C x
