The Daily Telegraph reports that a panel of advisers on tackling obesity has been disbanded over claims the Government was too sympathetic to the food and drink industry.
Members of the advisory group, which was set up under Labour, said the Government preferred to consult food and drink firms than scientific experts over Britain’s obesity crisis.
The decision to dissolve the panel was apparently taken some weeks ago but was not revealed until last week, according to the Financial Times.
The Department of Health confirmed the move to disband the expert panel and said it was ‘bringing in new advisory arrangements for obesity’.
