Dr Terry Simpson is a good friend of mine and Bariatric Cookery (we both have a love of food, sous vide cooking and bariatrics) so we were thrilled to see his new video chat. In this less than 2 minute slot he chats about what we call the 20:20:20 rule (see here), but he calls it the nickel:20:20 rule of eating to prevent food getting stuck.
Stuck food is a common cry for help on Forums and I get my fair share of late night calls from patients asking for some advice. Of course the main solution is a preventative one – and Dr Terry’s advice is simple, memorable and workable so that you don’t come a cropper! Santa getting stuck down the chimney is funny – stuck food at holiday time isn’t!
I have to say I love his recommendation to use a small size fork – we know this works here because so many of you have told us that they no longer have problems with food getting stuck, eating too fast, taking too large a bite, or not chopping up their portions into ideal nickel/20p size pieces, using our
Take less than 2 minutes out of your day and listen to this bariatric surgeon – he makes so much sense – and it’s not just advice for the lap band patient but applies across the board for bypass, sleeve and other revisions too. Check out his other videos too.

# I bought these just over a week ago and wanted to give them a really good try out on a whole variety of foods before writing a review. This cutlery set is fabulous!! Easy to use, has a really sharp knife and since using them I haven’t had any issues with food getting stuck. A very good idea to slow down my eating and help me with the 20-20-20 rule. I ordered 2 sets (one for home/one for work) and I wouldn’t be without them. In fact my husband has just asked me to order a set for him as well so that he can keep them at work to use for his lunch too (watch out for my email Carol). A great little set, very portable and weighted just right for me too. Very ergonomic and easy to handle. Thank you Carol, great product.

# I bought these in my total bariatric care box/hamper before my surgery. Laughed at them as they looked like a dinner set for a munchkin. Not laughing now … I have used them EVERY day since my op. They are brilliant at reminding you to take small bites.
