It’s that time of year when the days here in the UK start to lengthen, evenings are lighter and thoughts turn to summer skimpier clothes! It’s also usually a time for re-evaluation after the winter months and I see many posts and requests for ditching a few kilos or pounds in forums, on social media and in my postbag. In the media it is often called ‘bikini diet’ time and heralds its start about now. There’s about 14 weeks to the children’s summer holidays and so a start now on a new healthy eating regime can mean a sensible 6 kg/14 lb weight-loss … or so the reasoning goes…
Like countless others I have these aspirations – I would like to weight a little less, look a bit leaner and head into summer with a lighter step. And I recognise that one of the ways to do this is to set myself a goal (a SMART one) and then put into practise the ways of achieving it. This includes planning better, cooking more from scratch, upping the exercise or daily movement, keeping a food diary for accountability and being realistic rather than drastic with my actions to get there.
I started last week and so far so good, the scales have registered a fall (2 lbs), my clothes already feel looser, I have a spring to my step and have slept better than usual. My food diary has recorded a record number of meals cooked from scratch and I can confidently say I have some fabulous tested recipes for my next Easter newsletter, coming out next week as a consequence. I have also treated myself to a brand new product that we have just introduced to the shopping page – a Weight-Loss Countdown Plaque. This visual reminder of what I have lost and what I want to achieve I hope will help to keep me motivated over the coming weeks. I have it hung above my scales at the moment but may move it for more to see in a prominent position when I become more ‘loud and proud’ about my loss (fingers-crossed!).
It would make a great gift to yourself or others (perhaps starting out on your/their weight-loss journey); a fillip for those who just want to get to ‘goal’ and need a bit of a push to get there; and a much better gift for a weight-loss surgery patient or dieter for Easter than the choc fest offerings! I already know of one wls support group that plans to use it with their members as a motivational tool. Details about it are here and on the shopping page.
So there you have it – 1 week down for me and 13 to go… anyone joining me?
