Chocolate ‘may help keep people slim’.

March 31, 2012 Leave a Comment

I thought this might be an early April Fool’s Day joke but apparently not!

This week the findings from a new study of nearly 1,000 US people, reports that those who eat chocolate regularly tend to be thinner. The study looked at their diet, calorie intake and BMI and found that those who eat chocolate a few times a week were, on average, slimmer than those who ate it occasionally.

Even though chocolate is loaded with calories, it contains ingredients that may favour weight-loss rather than fat synthesis, scientists believe. Despite boosting calorie intake, regular chocolate consumption was related to lower BMI in the study. The link also remained even when other factors, like how much exercise individuals did, were taken into account.

I think the keywords here relate to ‘few times a week’ and little is mentioned about how much had been consumed. I know of many who could eat a square or two on a regular basis and stay slender. For many WLS patients this hasn’t been the case.

I for one won’t be FOOLED by this and my no-added -sugar chocolate is still kept in the safe for occasional or even rationed eating.
