Over the weekend I was asked on a WLS Forum about the value of TV programmes that feature bariatric surgery. The poster had been watching the ‘Fat Doctor’ series and had found much to inspire and educate her on a personal level. I remembered that I had taken part in a couple of the programmes but hadn’t got a copy of the particular one. A quick check on You Tube revealed one of the episodes (I’m still searching for the other) and so I am posting here
for those who are interested in viewing.
It was filmed about 5 years ago and features myself and a lovely chap named Dave – we both had gastric bypass surgery. We are very different individuals and so the programme offers something for all. My part starts around 12 minutes 30 seconds but the whole (if you can spare the time) will give great insight into the challenges and changes required pre and post-surgery for those who are curious.
I’m pleased to say that I have kept in touch with Dave and he’s doing very well. I also continue to speak to my bariatric team and can’t thank them enough for my surgery and the new ‘start’ they gave me. It hasn’t all been plain sailing and I work at my outcome each and every day – but it’s doable. 1 have maintained my weight-loss some 6 years on and feel healthier and more committed than ever. It has also given my career as a food writer a different slant and focus since more and more these days it’s dedicated to advising those with food choices after WLS.
What has changed?
Well I’ve now got fringe, my daughter (who is also featured) is getting married this year so a great reason for staying on track so that the mother-of-the-bride outfit looks good, and the wardrobes have shrunk! Watch the programme and you’ll see what I mean.
Comments welcome, as always …
