One of our favourite US website and Facebook groups (Bariatric Eating) asked their considerable membership what they used to help them reach their goal and stay there. The answers might well be surprising since they certainly spanned the spectrum of helpful measures and there wasn’t a really out-and-out clear winner but they are all topics that we cover here on Bariatric Cookery on a regular basis.
Our Bariatric Portion Plate recommends and limits carbs but also helps to measure food portions and encourages protein and carbs in a recommended size and ideal form, with instructions to eat protein first; our Bariatric Portion, Cook and Serve Cups and Bariatric Bento Box help with this too and with measuring food both at home and away; our Weight-Loss Journal and Weight-Loss Plaque encourage tracking in an easy way; our recipes on the website and within the free Bariatric Newsletter and Return to Slender Bariatric Cookery Books all limit and control carbs, and help with advice on planning meals; we also promote on the website and in our books the huge and valuable contribution that exercise can bring (although don’t believe you can outrun a poor dietary regime); and constantly repeat the basic rules of no drinking with eating and the need to work on our own and your own relationship with food since WLS is just a tool not a cure or remedy.
So please do delve into our archive of recipes and features to help with this – we’ll constantly update with advice from professionals, encourage you with non-judgemental support, and provide inspiration for food and recipes that will make eating a pleasure and not a chore or ordeal. All this we hope whilst also recognising that slip-ups happen, no-one is perfect and that the journey is never over nor any WLS case ‘hopeless’.
