GYM WEAR WITH CURVE APPEAL!
Two confessions start this blog – one is that I have always been envious of my daughter and her friends who ‘invest’ in great gym wear from Sweaty Betty and the rest of the luxury leisure market (I could never fit into their sizes). Second is that I have in times gone by looked at maternity wear (even bought it!) and thought why not? I have even been asked (some years ago admittedly) when my baby was due – to have only delivered some 8 weeks previously! So today I bring you news of something that sits astride both camps.
Why? well because I have been looking at gym wear for the more curvy lady. There’s no shortage of information about why it’s a good idea to exercise if you’re trying to shift the pounds (your bariatric team, GP or weight-loss group) will support and encourage this. But plus-size ladies can struggle to find suitable clothes for working out. There’s nothing less likely to encourage you to exercise in public than drawstring trousers and a baggy T-shirt!
So it’s a great welcome to FittaMamma who have a gorgeous (and flattering) range of exercise wear that fits and supports where you need it most. Their leggings have a wonderful wide waist panel that comes right up over your tummy, holding it firm and smoothing out your contours, and available in a selection of lengths and styles. The range was originally developed for the pregnant lady.
The High Support Top sits snug around your hips and won’t ride up when you exercise – no gaps or draughts when you bend over!. There’s also a unique back panel that supports your back and improves your posture, encouraging you to stand tall and help with any backache issues you may have. A Built-in bra support also gives extra lift, although the shoulder straps are wide enough for you to wear a bra underneath too.
The range is made from soft cotton with Cool Dry technology to wick moisture away from your skin and has a high elastane content to stretch when you stretch. Colours are flattering – jet black, stylish grey and hot pink. The range is an investment with prices from £44.99 but hard-working, hard-wearing and built to last.
In terms of sizes the XL will go up to size 20 quite comfortably and the leggings up to size 22. Tops come in the 3 colours mentioned and the leggings are all black.
Wearing exercise clothes that fit and look good can be very empowering – there’s nothing worse than working out in clothes that don’t fit/ride up/fall down or are baggy, unflattering and unsuitable for the gym.
For me the clincher is being to able to order on-line – sports shops can be so intimidating unless you are a toned size 8 to 10 – pregnant or not!
